2023 Marketing All-Stars, Marketer of the Year: Claudine Cheever, Amazon

Each year, we proudly celebrate the achievements of the Pacific Northwest’s marketing excellence. From now to April, we’ll share insights from our 2023 ThinkNW Marketing All-Stars class. The ThinkNW Marketing All-Stars presents a rare opportunity to delve into the minds of some of the world’s top marketers, leaders and talent shaping our industry and region.

We start with our Marketer of the Year winner, Amazon VP, Global Brand and Marketing, Claudine Cheever. Cheever has spearheaded some of the most groundbreaking successes in her eight-year tenure, including creative advertising that many consider world-class and is some of the best in the industry.

What do you value most in your work in this role, and what do you consider your biggest accomplishment in your current role?

I value my team most of all; their creativity, curiosity, generosity, and high standards all contribute to our success. I also love working on one of the world’s most valuable brands that makes our customer’s lives a little easier every day. One of my most significant accomplishments is definitely achieving 50/50 gender diversity in my team, which also contributes to our success, of course!

What do you like to do outside of your work (i.e., volunteering, sports and leisure, side projects)?

I’m a very amateur cyclist and runner; I am passionate about my work with my husband, preserving natural public spaces in Seattle and encouraging my kids’ interests in sustainability (my 17-year-old will not buy anything new), adventurous eating, and intense movie critiquing.

What impact does the Pacific Northwest have on your work (i.e., style of working here, talent, work/life balance)?

The beautiful PNW has helped give me a sense of balance and peace at work and in life. My team and co-workers are high-performance players, so the work day is action-packed, but weekends and family time are respected. How can you not when the Cascades, SJ Islands, and Dick’s at 10pm beckon?

How would you characterize the Pacific Northwest marketing/creative community? In your mind, what makes it unique?

The PNW marketing community is worldly and sophisticated, with sustainability, diversity, and equity as part of the conversation. So many of our businesses and brands in the region enable and empower people with technology that we are all acutely aware that we serve the people and the world we all live in.
